The touch, action and perception group is based at the Helmholtz Institute, Utrecht University. Our research focuses on tactile processing, sensorimotor control and body representations in healthy individuals, neurological and psychiatric patients.
Visual and somatosensory information is processed for a range of functions, including the guidance of actions, recognizing items in the environment and perception of our own body. We aim to delineate the neural and cognitive processes underlying such functions. In addition to studying healthy individuals, there is a particular focus on impairments in perception, sensorimotor guidance and bodily experience in clinical populations, both neurological and psychiatric patients. Furthermore, we aim to develop and assess methods for functional and cognitive recovery after brain damage.
