The touch, action and perception group is based at the Helmholtz Institute, Utrecht University. Our research focuses on tactile processing, sensorimotor processing, body representations and peripersonal space.
Visual and somatosensory information is important for a range of functions, including the guidance of actions, recognizing items in the environment, perception of our own body and affective experience. In addition to studying healthy individuals, there is a particular focus on perception, sensorimotor guidance and bodily experience in individuals with neurological and psychiatric conditions. Furthermore, we aim to develop methods that can enhance recovery. We use a combination of psychophysical methods, bodily illusions, kinematic recordings and neuropsychological assessment.
